Day Two of Our Trip to BC PDF Print E-mail

After a really sound sleep, we were all up, showered, dressed with breakfast in our bellies and on the road by 8:30 AM. We were heading for Thunderbay today, 695 kilometres from Sault Ste Marie and we wanted to be there in time to have dinner with Jamie and Mary, hence our early start. The weather was beautiful; blue, blue sky and sunny with the temperature hovering in the high 20's C. The day couldn't have been better for driving around the lake head of Lake Superior and because it is Labour Day, the highway was only being lightly travelled so the flow of traffic was great.

We stopped twice; once at a scenic lookout for pictures and once in Wawa, to make our mandatory stop at Young's General Store, home of the Wawa goose and an old fashioned pickle barrel. Everytime we have driven to Thunderbay (and we have done many trips because Jamie and Mary went to college there) we stop there to buy pickles and see what other goodies we can find in the store. Our parking spot made it seem as if the goose was actually flying out of the top of the motorhome, as you can see.

Once we arrived at the Thunderbay KOA, set up the motorhome and unloaded the car, it was 6:00 PM and we then headed over to Jamie and Mary's place. Since we last saw Mary, over a year and a half has passed and seeing her again was so good. After many hugs and kisses and a tour of their home, we all headed out for dinner at a local sushi restaurant for a great dinner filled with plenty of laughs. From there, we headed to a nearby bowling alley where the laughs continued and we all showed our skills (or lack of) in the game of five pin. We had a great time and made arrangements to get together again tomorrow for another visit and to see some of the sites in and around the city.
