We decided to leave Eugene today, two days early so we could go to the coast. The forecast for today and the next several days is sunny and warm so it was crazy to stay where we were. We loved the city of Eugene but unfortunately the park we were staying at was more like a parking lot and we needed to get back to nature.

Today there was a NASCAR race on so we waited until it was over, around 2:30pm Pacific time before we hit the road. We took Hwy 126 west to the Pacific Coast Scenic Byway, Hwy 101, which runs up the entire coast of Oregon. From there we headed north to The Sea Lion Caves just 11 miles north of Florence and the junction of Hwy 126 and Hwy 101. There we were able to observe hundreds of sea lions in the wild, basking on rocks at the ocean's edge and in the world's largest sea cave. The noise they made would probably drive a person crazy if they were exposed to it all day, however for us at the moment, it was music to our ears. In the distance we could see the Haceta Head Lighthouse possibly one of the most photographed lighthouses in the world. It was built in 1894 and can be seen from 21 miles away at sea. Just as we were about to leave, a passing whale used his blowhole and signified his presence.

We continued up the coast to the Sea Perch RV Park right on the ocean just south of Yachats. Tonight we are parked facing west where we were able to watch the sunset after we took a leisurely stroll along the beach. We will sleep with the windows open so we can have the sound of the ocean lull us to sleep.

I think we are in heaven!Innocent
