Father's Day at Qualicum Beach PDF Print E-mail

We had heard on our favourite local radio station here, JACK FM 103.1, yesterday that there was going to be a "Show and Shine Car Show" in Qualicum Beach on Father's Day. We have been enjoying incredible weather so we decided we wanted to make the two-hour drive to see the hundreds of classic cars.

We left Metchosen just before 9:00 AM and the drive up the TransCanada Highway was great, despite the traffic. On our way there, we passed several hot rods making their way to the show as well as others heading to the number of parks and beaches along the way. We wandered among the throngs of car-buffs and admired the 550 registered cars at the show. Some were modified; some stock, some partially completed and some were simply outstanding. Rick and I have a difference of opinion as to what a "hot" car is but somehow we managed to find at least a half a dozen that we both liked.

On the way back we took several scenic side trips and determined that we would return to some of them when we have more time to explore. The tourism here is a huge business and with the areas we have seen so far it is understandable. Vancouver Island has so much to see, it will be hard to leave here when the time comes. We had a really great weekend and as a car enthusiast, Rick enjoyed a very Happy Father's Day!
