apr 19-07.jpgWell the time has come for us to start our journey north. Today the forecast in Mobile was calling for clear skies and a high of 25°C (77°F) with each day of the weekend being a carbon copy, perfect for cruising around on a motorcycle. It was also perfect for driving in the Moho and with our appointment with Travel Supreme looming closer; we could put off the northward trek no longer.

We chose to stay off the interstate highways and stuck to the western route in Alabama until we reached Florence, just south of the Tennessee state line. Our drive took us past bayous, over rivers and past lakes; we drove through farmlands, thick forests and up and down hills. Who knew Alabama had such a varied terrain? Our biggest surprise was seeing so much logging going on and we are still trying to figure out what type of trees they were.

The weather was perfect all the way here; clear and sunny and the roads all day were smooth and trouble free. The highest temperature we saw on our thermostat was 31°C (88°F) and right now it is 18°C (64°F). According to everything I have read the warm temperatures will follow us to Wakarusa, Indiana our next longer-than-a-night destination. We were going to stay in a local park but they had no sites left that were large enough for us so tonight we are parked in a Wal-Mart parking lot in Florence. Our spot is quiet, off the highway and will do in a pinch.
