After another late start, we set out in downright "balmy" weather to do some sightseeing in the countryside around here. It rose to 19C (66F), though it is cloudy and there are flood warnings everywhere. We ventured on some "off-the-beaten-path" roads, which would be awesome on a motorcycle. I can only imagine how pretty it is here in the summertime. There are rolling hills, great paved, winding roads and the weather can change dramatically within a few miles.

We were hoping to find a health food store along the way but to no avail. We did find a cute little herb shop where the proprietor informed us that the new Kroger's in Batesville had a good selection of health food. Sure enough, it was a great store with lots of choices of organic and non-organic produce and dry goods. The prices were on par with what we pay in Canada but often more expensive. Yesterday, we looked all day for a restaurant that served food we would eat, but everywhere they seem to be big on frying. When we finally did find a place with a good menu and some vegetarian choices, it was either closed or really expensive.

There was a time that it was cheaper to eat out and buy groceries here in the States but those days are long gone. Once you factor in the exchange, most often the cost of food is more than what we pay in Canada. The one thing that is cheaper though is the fuel. We filled up the car yesterday for approximately $22.00 CND, a substantial savings.
