We had rain again today and fortunately we had no plans to explore any outdoor attractions because for a while it really poured here. The forest fire advisories have gradually been lowering from extreme to moderate and now campers can have campfires for the first time in a long time. Salmon Point is beginning to become emptier, partly because of the rain but mostly because the summer holidays are nearing their end and families are getting ready to go back to school. For us, it is very reminiscent of the days of Grandview Lodge when our staff would start leaving for college and the influx of family guests would start reducing.

We opted to go into Campbell River and catch a matinee movie at one of the local theatres. We were three quarters of the way through our movie of choice, Without a Paddle, when all of a sudden the fire alarm went off and we had to vacate the premises. Two weeks ago when we were at Mt. Washington, the same thing happened while we were in the main lodge. Was it us? At the theatre we learned that while one of the staff was making cotton candy, they overcooked it a little causing it to smoke, hence the alarm was set off. We don't know what caused the alarm to go off at the ski resort, but there was no fire there either. The theatre manager gave every patron a two-for-one voucher and the movie resumed with no further problems after a 15-minute outdoor break.

When we got home, we played a game of cards while we listened to the rain and watched the mountains disappear behind the clouds. We have some work to do yet on how to make the most of rainy days, but we are learning and our day was enjoyable just the same.
