This morning the storm clouds had vanished and the sun had returned so we headed for the pool after taking yesterday morning off. We were a little surprised to see fresh snow on the surrounding mountains once again making it seem more like the deep of winter than early spring. The overnight low here had dropped to only 9C (48.2F) and because the pool is nicely heated, there was a visible mist rising from the surface. Fortunately, it didn’t take long for the air to warm up so we did see a high of 25C (77F) and over the next three days we will enjoy much of the same. It would be nice to think that the nearby peaks will be snow free by the time we depart in about three weeks from now!

As I have mentioned before, day by day this park is becoming emptier as the snowbirds from Canada and the northern states head home. In the mornings we no longer need to get to the pool by 6:00 AM in order to enjoy the solitude…it’s pretty much empty all day long. The office hours have been reduced considerably and my services are no longer required so I have been enjoying some time to myself. Most of the volunteers have gone or are leaving within the next few days and we are saying goodbye to many new friends.

Tonight, Sue rounded up what few folks that are left and we headed to the Morongo Casino to indulge in their all-you-can-eat seafood buffet. Even though we had told ourselves we would not eat at a buffet again for a very long time, the price of $7.77 was hard to resist so off we went to pig out for our final time (I hope) this spring. Yes we ate too much but the food and company were great and a good time was had by all.
