At the risk of annoying our northern readers I will begin by saying the weather here continues to be spectacular. Yesterday and today we reached highs of over 30C (85+F) and it has been surprisingly windless which unfortunately interprets into being just too darned hot to ride the motorcycle.

Like every Sunday, our intention this morning was to go for coffee but once again, finding an independent shop has proven to be challenging. We explored El Paseo Drive looking in earnest for an elusive coffee shop and then we headed over to The Spa Casino on North Indian Canyon Drive to check out the McCormick Exotic Car Auction . We had read about this auction and wanted to attend just to satisfy our curiosity and see what kind of “exotic” cars would be for sale.

Just as we arrived the bidding was ending for a very rare, 1993, Jaguar XJ220 with only 2,600 miles on it. It is number 54 of only 270 ever built, has 542 HP and it originally sold new for $625,000. It was absolutely gorgeous and today it sold for $157,000, a pretty good deal for the purchaser. We saw cars of all makes, models and ages however very few we saw met the reserves. There were a few that had no reserve on them (and those ones were practically given away) but overall (at least what we saw) there didn’t seem to be a lot of money changing hands (perhaps an indication of a depressed economy??).

This is what $157,000 could have bought you today!!
