A Day in Biloxi Print

mar 3-04.jpg We learned very early this morning (2:30 AM) that the price for being close to the beach in Biloxi, is the intense sound of trains rumbling up and down the tracks and blowing their whistles at all hours of the night. Undecided In fact, we learned that the trains are so close you can feel the ground move and when you are woken up in the middle of a sound sleep, they sound like they are coming into your bedroom. We saw the tracks when we pulled in, however we hoped that they weren't used much. WRONG!! According to the other RVer's who have been here for a while, you DO get used to it, however we are heading for Abbeville, Louisiana tomorrow so we will never know.

The weather today was overcast and in the high teens C (60'sF). They were calling for a temperature in the high 20's C (70'sF) but... well you know the drill, the weatherman was wrong. Anyway, we found out from the locals that the best place to buy fresh seafood was at Gollott's Seafood in neighbouring D'Iberville, a short drive from here. We bought some fresh oysters, soft-shell crabs and lobster meat and then headed over to the beach for a walk. Even overcast, the beach was a great place to walk and watch a surfboard enthusiast skimming across the water with the aid of a parasail device powered by the wind. We aren't sure exactly what this sport is but he obviously was an expert at it as he was flying over that water!

When we returned to the campground, there was a spaghetti, salad and garlic-bread dinner at the recreation centre for $2.00 per person. It was a community event, which also included a raffle, to give the campers an opportunity to meet each other. We thought we would attend and sure enough, Rick won the draw. He won $60.00 worth of a waterless cleaning product for cars, RV's and boats, a perfect prize for "The Waxman"!
